National Pension Commission (PenCom) has launched National Pension Week slated to commence from October 26 to 30, 2026.
Director general of PenCom, Ms Omolola Oloworaran launched the week along with its website in Lagos today.
According to her, the initiative is designed to meet Nigerians at different stages of their lives, with activities structured around the concerns of young people, business owners, retirees, pension professionals and the wider public.
She stated that PenCom is set to take its pension awareness campaign beyond the traditional workforce, with youths, entrepreneurs, self-employed Nigerians and retirees among the key groups targeted in a five-day national engagement programme.
National Pension Week, is part of the Commission’s efforts to make retirement security a more regular subject of public discussion and deepen understanding of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) across different segments of the population.
The programme would begin with a Youth Engagement Day, during which Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), pension operators and accredited pension agents would engage young Nigerians on the importance of beginning retirement planning early.
As part of the youth-focused activities, PenCom would also reward winners of its pension literacy essay competition. The competition, which opened on October 1,was targeted at secondary school students, tertiary institution students and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The second day would shift attention to entrepreneurs and the self-employed through a National SME Fair. The initiative is expected to provide a platform for business owners and other operators outside the conventional formal employment structure to better understand pension participation and the opportunities available within the CPS.
On the third day, senior citizens will take center stage, with PenCom focusing on issues concerning retirees and the benefits available to them.
Amongst the issues expected to feature is PenCare, the Commission’s retiree healthcare initiative, as well as the Minimum Pension Guarantee, which is expected to provide a minimum level of pension protection for eligible retirees under the CPS.
The fourth day will feature a National Pension Summit, bringing together regulators, pension operators, employers and other stakeholders to examine issues around policy innovation, service delivery, leadership, accountability and the expansion of pension coverage
The programme will end on the fifth day with Press Day, which will provide journalists the opportunity to review the activities of the week and engage the Commission on issues arising from them.
DG said the campaign would also extend beyond physical events, with digital participation incorporated into the programme for Nigerians who may not be able to attend in person.
