In an effort to speed up remittance of pension contributions of workers in the public sector of the federation, National Pension Commission, PENCOM, has directed the workers to register their personal details on its website.
PENCOM had earlier called on all public sector employees who have registered with any of the 13 licensed pension fund administrators, PFAs, to provide the commission with details of their registration for a retirement savings account. This is required to ensure proper crediting of their retirement savings account.
To ensure the success of the pension reform also, PENCOM has requested Nigerian pensioners outside the country to register with the commission. The remittance of pension contributions of workers in the public service of the federation is in progress and is being done in batches by the regulatory authority in nation’s pension industry. However, according to PENCOM, the online form available on its website is the only method of providing this information to the commission.
Mohammed Ahmad, director-general of PENCOM pleaded with the affected pensioners to endeavor to provide all requested information. Letters, phone calls, faxes, text messages, emails or any other forms of submission, the commission stated, will not be accepted.
“While it is not mandatory that you provide an email address during registration, it is hoghly recommended that you do so as it will allow you to receive important update about your retirement savings account from PENCOM,” he stated.
Public sector employees are also required to provide PENCOM with their respective contact phone numbers where they can be reached. In case any of the affected employees do not have an email account, they are advised to open an email account for free by visiting either www.yahoo.com or www.hotmail.com. A confirmation email is to be sent to any employee who filled the required form online if he has provided a valid email address with his registration.
To complete the registration details, employees are required to provide information on their PFA, ministry/department/agency, bio-data, grade level and grade step, location, rank/designation, contact details, password for access to their information. To prevent a situation where the Central Bank of Nigeria will unnecessarily hold on to this pension fund, the Federal public sector employees were directed to register their personal details on the website of PENCOM.
