The medical outreach, held on June 17, 2026, served about 100 local entrepreneurs in the Badagry community, providing free blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, malaria tests, Hepatitis B screening, health consultations, and medication support.

The screening results showed that 25% of traders had malaria, 22% had high blood pressure, 15% had elevated blood glucose levels, and 4% had Hepatitis B. Early detection enabled timely intervention, counselling, referrals, and treatment support. These results underscore the need for stronger, more accessible healthcare services for local entrepreneurs whose businesses contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic resilience.

Commenting on the initiative, Olalekan Oyinlade, Managing Director/CEO of emPLE General Insurance Limited, said, “At emPLE, we believe resilience starts with fostering healthy individuals, thriving businesses, and productive communities, all underpinned by reliable financial protection. Our partnership with Medplus Pharmacy Limited underscores this shared ethos. Through our intervention, we are helping traders build wealth, stay productive, and improve community wellbeing. We believe that addressing the underlying vulnerabilities that can undermine productivity and well-being across Nigeria remains the hallmark of truly empowering people to build lasting legacies.”

Speaking at the event, Jolaolu Fakoya, Managing Director/CEO of emPLE Life Assurance Limited, said, “The findings from this outreach reinforce an important reality: while local entrepreneurs are focused on protecting and growing their businesses, there’s a subtle underestimation of the impact that unexpected health challenges can have on their livelihoods. Initiatives like this help raise awareness of the importance of early detection and proactive health management, while also highlighting the need for financial safeguards that can help individuals and families navigate life’s uncertainties.”

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Funke Sanni, Chief Distribution Officer, stated that “We recognise that many small business owners are the backbone of local economies, and supporting their health is an important step toward supporting their livelihoods and the families that rely on them.”

Rachel Owolabi, Head of Marketing and Customer Experience at emPLE Nigeria, added, “When local entrepreneurs have access to preventive healthcare and timely medical support, they are better placed to sustain their businesses, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to economic growth. This is where insurance becomes truly relevant.”

The outreach is part of emPLE’s ongoing sustainability and social impact efforts to promote healthier communities and strengthen economic resilience. Working alongside trusted partners, emPLE continues to advance initiatives that improve access to essential services and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

emPLE is a Nigerian insurance brand operating through emPLE General Insurance Limited and emPLE Life Assurance Limited, focused on delivering accessible protection solutions grounded in governance discipline, operational excellence, and sustainability.
