The Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of National lnsurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr Olusegun Omosehin has charged the new President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mrs Ekeoma Ezeibe, to lead the industry with innovation, professionalism, inclusion and trust.
Omosehin, gave the charge at the investiture ceremony of Mrs Ezeibe as the 23rd President of NCRIB, held in Lagos.
Omosehin who emphasized three key imperatives that would shape the future of the brokerage industry as education, ethics and public confidence, urged the new NCRIB president to make them central to her agenda.
He charged the new Presidentof the Council, Mrs. Ezeibe, saying, “as you assume this esteemed role, I charge you to lead with:
• Professionalism that sets new benchmarks.
• Inclusion that brings every Nigerian into tsafety net.
• Innovation that transforms how we serve.
• Trust that anchors our market’s reputation.
“Let your tenure be defined by bold decisions, ethical leadership, and transformative impact. The future of our industry depends on visionary leaders like you. Together, let us build an insurance market that serves Nigerians better and strengthens our economy”, he added.
He described Ezeibe’s emergence as the third female president in the Council’s 63-year history as a testament to her resilience, excellence and professionalism.
He said, “Mrs. Ezeibe’s emergence as the third female President in the 63-year history of the Council is a powerful symbol of progress and inclusion. Her journey is one of quiet strength and strategic impact both at NCRIB and the insurance industry.
“Of note is her strategic leadership as Chairperson of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Committee on AfCFTA (NII-AfCFTA). Under her guidance, the Committee has championed industry enlightenment, capacity building, and policy advocacy to ensure Nigerian insurance industry is well-positioned to harness the opportunities of the African Continental Free Trade Area”.
According to him, perception and performance in insurance are inseparable. Trust grows when their actions meet stakeholders’ expectations.
He therefore advised brokers to evolve with the changing market environment by embracing client-focused advisory services, data-driven claims management and digital innovation.
Omosehin disclosed that NAICOM would strengthen market conduct oversight to ensure transparency, fairness and value delivery, while also promoting digital transformation in the insurance space.
According to the Commissioner, this would be done through initiatives such as the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC), API-enabled placements and efficient claims portals.
Omosehin called for closer collaboration between NAICOM and the NCRIB in developing broker-led micro-insurance and takaful solutions, which, he said, would deepen penetration and financial inclusion.
The Commissioner also urged NCRIB to actively partner with the Commission in implementing the provisions of NIIRA 2025.
He said her leadership marked a new chapter for the Nigerian insurance brokerage profession.
He commended the outgoing President, Prince Babatunde Oguntade, for his visionary leadership and the steady progress made under his tenure, particularly in promoting integrity and professionalism within the brokerage sector.
In her acceptance speech, Ezeibe expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her as the new President of the NCRIB and pledged that the Council would work closely with NAICOM to ensure the full implementation of the newly enacted Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.
Ezeibe also assured that her administration would prioritise strengthening the NCRIB’s existing partnerships with other industry bodies and relevant organisations to advance the growth and credibility of the insurance sector.
