The newly elected national officers of the Old Girls Association of Eva Adelaja Girls Secondary Grammar School, Bariga paid a courtesy visit to the alma mater recently in Lagos.
The Executive officers led by the National President ,Mrs Rhoda Ayinde were received by the Principals of the Junior and Senior schools.
Mrs Ayinde, appreciated both Principals for their exemplary service in maintaining the good standard of the schools. “The scenery of the schools shows that, both the teaching and non teaching staff are doing a lot. We pray that God will be with you and help you to take the schools to great heights”, she said.
According to her, the purpose of the visit was to among others; identify areas of concern and develop partner ship for the upliftment of both two schools and impact positively on the students. “we are here to build on the legacy of past Excos, nurturing the students, character development, molding them to become women of substance and emerge as better generation. “ Adding that together, we can make our nation a better place.”
Mrs Ayinde further informed that ,”we want to be part of the orientation programme for new intakes of Junior Secondary School (JSS) by sharing our experiences to motivate them. We will also like to participate in the valedictory service for Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), with a view to induct the three graduands into OGA. We want to catch them young.”
In her response, the Principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mrs Olayinka Soyoye, thanked OGA for the visit emphasizing the impressive presence and impact of OGA in virtually all areas of the school. She reiterated OGA’s show of love and sacrifice for the students.
Mrs Soyoye disclosed that at the 7th Annual Speech & Prize Giving Day of the school on March 17th, 2022, an award of appreciation was given to OGA for selfless commitement and dedicated service to her alma mater.
Like Oliver twist, she appealed to OGA not to rest on her oars in assisting the school in renovating SSS1 block, building hostel for SSS students who are all now in full boarding . The school, she added is also in dire need of a school bus.
According to her, other critical challenge is the need for a bigger dinning Hall and kitchen for the two schools. She bemoaned the crowded present situation whereby SSS students have to wait for the juniors to dine before having their own meal.
The Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Mrs Olanrewaju Buhari in her response, was grateful to both national and set groups for giving scholarships and reading devices to the students, renovating the school biology and chemistry labs, gate, toilets and food court among others.
She called the attention of national officers to the urgent need to build a befitting school hall in addition to the provision of two solar street lights.”
Buhari added that “our students have been presented for national and international competitions but their laptops are outdated. We will appreciate if all classes have learning devices”.
She presented to the National President, the award given to OGA in May, 2022 by Lagos State Government Education District 2, in recognition of the association’s valuable contributions to the district.
The Exco later conducted on the spot assessment of the two schools. They toured the computer rooms, staff rooms, sick bay, food court still under construction by 82set, Green House for vegetables, among others.
