The Corporate Affairs Managers Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association (CAMCONIA) has officially inaugurated a new Executive Committee to steer its affairs following recent elections held at the NIA House in Victoria Island, Lagos.
CAMCONIA Chairman
Bankole Banjo, Marketing & Corporate Communications Manager at SanlamAllianz Nigeria, emerged as the elected Chairman, succeeding Segun Bankole, whose tenure spanned from December 2023 to September 2026.
Also elected to the executive leadership are Rachel Owolabi, Head, Marketing & Customer Experience, emPLE Nigeria, as Vice Chairman; Niyi Abiola, Head, Corporate Services Leadway as General Secretary and Nancy Peter, Corporate Affairs Manager, Linkage Assurance who emerged as Assistant General Secretary.
Delivering his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman expressed gratitude to member companies and paid tribute to the pioneering leaders of the committee. Banjo declared that his mandate represents a collective responsibility to position corporate communicators at the core of industry decision making, emphasizing that communicators are strategic professionals who directly influence reputation, perception, and business outcomes.
Outlining his strategic direction, he introduced the “S.O.A.R.” agenda, committing the new administration to driving strategic visibility, open
communication, authentic camaraderie, and responsible professionalism across the industry. Banjo noted that the committee must move beyond simply executing tasks to becoming deeply impactful, ensuring that corporate affairs managers operate as true co-creators of the conversations affecting the profession.
In his valedictory address, outgoing Chairman Segun Bankole reflected on the strides achieved during his tenure amidst a fast-evolving, digital first communications landscape. He charged the new executive committee to build on the collaborative ethos established over the years, reminding members that while they represent different companies, they must collectively tell one unified industry story of trust, innovation, and resilience.
He also urged the incoming executive team to consider broadening CAMCONIA’s membership to officially integrate sales professionals, reinforcing the symbiotic relationship between brand management and commercial growth.
The new Chairman brings over 15 years of multi-sector corporate communications, reputation management, and brand strategy experience to the role. Prior to his current position at SanlamAllianz Nigeria, Banjo led communications portfolios across African Alliance Insurance Plc, FBNInsurance, and pan African advocacy organisation, African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHealth), an Aliko Dangote Foundation initiative in conjunction with the Global Coalition for Health (GBCHealth). He is an alumnus of Olabisi Onabanjo University, holds an executive master’s degree from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management in the UK, and is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations as well as the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria.
Together with the newly inaugurated executive team, the committee will drive strategic initiatives designed to align with broader industry objectives, deepen insurance penetration, and build enduring public trust across Nigeria.
