NLNG on Friday completed the commissioning of the second phase of its school renovation project in Rivers State, upgrading infrastructure in host community schools as part of its strategic commitment to education and community development.

The commissioning, which includes the transformation of Model Boys Secondary School, Omoku, and Community Secondary School, Amadi-Ama in Port Harcourt, marks a significant milestone in NLNG’s four-pillar Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda focused on sustainability, stakeholding, partnership, and shared prosperity. These upgrades were delivered in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education, a key partner in the Company’s drive to promote quality education.

Highlights of the renovations include the construction of fully equipped male and female toilets, Youth Corps lodges, complete renovation and re-equipping of science laboratories, upgrade of five classrooms (2 junior, 3 senior), refurbishment of four administrative blocks, and the construction of a new administrative building for teachers and school staff.

Speaking at the commissioning, Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of NLNG, represented by Yemi Adeyemi, Manager, Community Relations & Sustainable Development said the commissioning was another milestone in the Company’s journey to fulfil its promise to our host communities.

“Ensuring the education of our young ones may very well be the biggest insurance for the future. We acknowledge this, and it has been the driving force behind both our past and current interventions. Quality education remains the foundation of sustainable national development. This commissioning is evidence to our commitment to human capital development and long-term community impact”.

“As we invest in educational infrastructure like this, we are not only improving learning environments but also planting the seeds for future leaders, innovators, and professionals. We are proud to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of education in our communities and beyond”, She added.

Dr. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, represented by Alua Adiela, Director of Secondary Education, expressed appreciation to the leadership and management of NLNG for their steadfast commitment to advancing education in Rivers State.

She remarked, “The infrastructure upgrades and enhancements are truly commendable. However, what resonates even more deeply is the spirit behind this intervention. It reflects a profound sense of responsibility and a long-term vision, one that champions learning, uplifts educators, and acknowledges that a strong education system is fundamental to national development. NLNG could have confined itself to its core business operations, but instead, it chose to lead with empathy and foresight. This is the kind of corporate leadership our nation so urgently needs.”The commissioning follows the successful completion of Phase 1, which saw similar enhancements in other schools on Bonny Island and in Port Harcourt. Since inception, NLNG has championed educational advancement through scholarships, institutional support, and technical skills training, targeting Rivers State and Nigeria at large. This initiative is a continuation of that legacy, one that turns corporate responsibility into tangible, life-changing outcomes for students, educators, and future leaders
