The Managing Director/CEO Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Mr Femi Asenuga has urged the press to change the narrative of insurance business in the country.

Stating that the media has a huge role to play in changing the story as regards to low insurance penetration in the country, he noted that the change is not only expected at consumer level but also at the policy making level.

He disclosed that Mutual Benefits Assurance is partnering NAIPE to  ensure growth of insurance  business through their reportage.

“We are far from where we are supposed to be as a country. Nigeria as the giant of Africa should not only be in theory.

As the press, you have a major role to play in changing the narrative of insurance penetration in the country. The change is not only expected at the consumer level but also at  policy making because that is where everything starts from. We are partnering with you in exchanging your frontier of knowledge for this subject of insurance because it is only when you are speaking or writing to entrench knowledge that we achieve expected desire”, he said.

Delivering a paper at the workshop, the Deputy General Manager Technical , Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Titi Akinsiku described insurance as savings that provide income at need.

She noted that as insurance benefits individuals, it as well benefits the nation thereby promoting economic growth.

Describing insurance as a succor, she opined that insecurity, inflation among others are challenges which insurance takes care of.

Akinsiku warned on the dangers of patronising fake insurances adding that fakes lack potentials of providing succor.

” Once you patronise fake insurance practitioners, be rest assured that you will not get compensated if risk occurs”, warned.

She stated that any third party motor insurance sold at rate of N5,000 is fake adding that no claims can be paid from such policy.
