The Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN) has called on government to provide inclusive work environment that will carter for Persons With Albinism (PWAs) as the nation celebrates Workers’Day.

According to the national president of AAN, Mrs Bisi Bamishe, members of the association deserve adequate employment opportunities, empowerment, recognition, and fair treatment.

Bamishe lamented that persons with albinism do suffer discrimination when in search of employment as well as in the workplace.

According to her, the association use this special occasion to call on the Nigerian government across all tiers – federal, state, and local – to recognise persons with albinism  as people who can contribute to the socioeconomic fabric of the nation, adding, “they should be given employment and the opportunity to contribute their quota”.

“Workers are the lifeblood of every economy and deserve to be celebrated not just on a special day but every day.

“As we commemorate this special Workers’ Day, we use this medium to appreciate our daily heroes who give their all to the progress of the workplace and our darling nation, Nigeria”, she added.

We recognise their roles in society and it is imperative that we empower workers to be able to access many opportunities needed for self-fulfillment and dignity of human life.

AAN is the umbrella body of persons with albinism in Nigeria with the mandate to mainstream persons with albinism into the Nigerian society and advocate and educate the nation about challenges they face.

Albinism is a genetic condition that affects the production of melanin, which is responsible for pigmentation in the skin, eyes, and hair. People with albinism have little to no melanin.
